The Compassionate Neighbourhood Initiative is a warm-hearted, community-driven volunteer project dedicated to providing personal and practical support to any neighbour facing challenges such as isolation, illness, or difficulties managing their homes and properties.
We are genuinely excited to launch our project in two neighbourhoods this February 2026.

The Compassionate Neighbourhood Initiative
is a vital, community-driven volunteer project that provides personal and practical support to individuals facing isolation, illness, or difficulties with home management.
Our project will launch in two neighbourhoods and expand to additional areas as we witness its positive impact. The Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program (NEPP) Map will guide the neighbourhood boundaries.
Each participating neighbourhood will be supported by 2-3 trained volunteer Neighbourhood Advocates, who will be the main point of contact for residents. They will work closely with a designated ‘Compassionate Neighbourhood Connector' who will guide the Supporters in providing support tailored to individuals in their neighbourhood.
Our committed Neighbourhood Advocates are available to ALL residents seeking assistance with personal challenges (non-disaster-related). This outreach will cater to individuals of all ages facing various barriers, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Quadra Island Neighbourhood Advocate Role:
•Guide to Local Support: Help community members tap into essential services like grocery and meal delivery, home care assistance, mobility equipment, programs like Better at Home, and engaging social activities.
•A Listening Heart: Sometimes the most powerful support is simply being there to listen with empathy and without judgment.
•Reliable Connection: Many residents live far from family. Visits and check-ins can provide comfort and reassurance, showing them that someone truly cares.
•Flexible & Responsive: Advocates will be available based on individual needs-there's no fixed schedule, just meaningful moments of support when they're needed most.
